What We Do
There are at least one billion people worldwide that have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Filter Project provides two life changing gifts to those we serve. First, we share the gift of God’s love, the Gospel of Christ. Second, we provide the gift of clean, safe, drinking water by providing a long-lasting water filter. This gift allows us to develop a continued relationship with the family and thereby allowing us to nurture a new relationship with Jesus Christ.
How we do it
- We test local water sources (pond, or creek) to ensure that the filters we provide will be a viable solution for the community’s water issues.
- We then do a community assessment to determine how many household filters will be required in that community.
-
After assessment, we begin a systematic distribution of tickets to each household throughout the community.
-
This ticket is an invitation for a family member to join us at a group distribution at a local church to collect a filter and view a short presentation.
-
The communities we serve often refer to these tickets as “Tickets of Hope”
- A group of identified recipients are gathered in a central area for training, a gospel presentation and to receive their filter and bucket/vessel.
- Each family member completes a short health survey to determine which rounds of anti-parasitic medicine might be required to treat any pre-existing waterborne illnesses.
- These resources are a gift to families without religious bias or stipulation. However, each family must consent to allow a local team member to visit them at least three times over the next six weeks.
- Each family is visited a minimum of three to times over the next six weeks. We do this to evaluate if they are correctly performing the daily maintenance of the filter needed to ensure its long-term effectiveness.
- At each visit, a prepared lesson is used as a follow up the initial presentation of the gospel first heard at the distribution event or to a subsequent conversations missionaries have had with the household.
- We also provide the New Testament in their native language—a text Bible they can read and/or a solar-powered audio Bible if necessary.
- When any family member responds positively to the gospel message, we begin three in-home discipleship training modules.
- The family is connected with a local church of believers. This may be a church that meets in a building, a regular gathering in another believer’s home, or sometimes even under a shade tree.
Accountability and Transparency
- Other than sharing the gospel, nothing is more important to us that being accountable for what God has provided through our donors. We want our donors to know exactly how funds are spent and the results of those contributions.
- We use a GPS enabled software that uses GIS (Geographic Information System) technology through Sparrow Data Solutions.
- Each filter is equipped with a barcode. It is associated with a specific household at the time of distribution. Baseline health and spiritual data is collected on each family member at the time of distribution. The filter is permanently connected to each family via the barcode and can be tracked.
- Data is collected and analyzed at each step of the process and can be viewed on our website on each campaign dashboard.
Partnering
- We work with The Bucket Ministry and indigenous ministries with a proven track record of evangelism, church planting and discipleship. Our goal is to come along side these ministries to assist them to expand their reach and effectiveness.
- Our partnership with The Bucket Ministry allows donor funds to go further by sharing personnel management, IT support, procurement, and missionary training on large scale projects.
- The Bucket Ministry and The Filter Project have a common purpose – to share the gospel by providing clean drinking water. With our combined efforts and shared resources, we can serve each region more efficiently.
