This was written by our dear friends Mark and Morgan Sanders who have accompanied The Filter Project this week in Kenya.
“Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to worship with a group of local believers . And let me tell you…they can sing! The energy in the room was palpable, and God’s presence was so tangible you could feel it in the thickness of the air. I’ve got to find a way to bottle up that feeling and bring it home!
Following worship, our teams headed out to follow-up with individuals who had received their water filters the week prior. The hospitality we encountered was overwhelming. Families welcomed us into their one-room homes, where space was so limited that our four person teams barely fit. Several had small children that would giggle and wave, some playing peek-a-boo from behind makeshift curtains of hanging sheets that separated their living space from the sleeping area.
We observed the local missionary teams as they reviewed the filter usage in each home. Families shared how they no longer had to walk long distances to collect water to then spend the time and resources to boil it. Others spoke about how they were relieved to know they had clean water to safely feed and bathe their babies. It was both heartwarming and humbling to hear their stories. In every home, we could see God at work.
Our hearts are full but heavy as we reflect on our time here in Kenya. There is great joy in witnessing firsthand what God is doing in this community, but also a deep burden knowing how many more families are in need. We are grateful to rest in the reminder that God’s love is moving in ways far beyond what we can see.”
